1625 300th Ave. (Petersburg) P. O. Box 215
Dyersville, Iowa 52040 New Vienna, Iowa 52065
Welcome to our parishes. Both parishes are Germanic in origin with two beautiful Gothic churches dating back to 1848 for St. Boniface and 1867 for SS. Peter and Paul. Each church has five altars made of carved wood and very ornate. Each has statues but SS. Peter and Paul has one hundred fifty-seven statues of various sizes. Both churches are on the historical register of Iowa and St. Boniface includes a world-famous pipe organ which is on the historical register and is one of the few Schuelke Organs left in the world.
The parishes are proud of their history of Catholic education. The parishes are consolidated and form the Hennessy School System with grades K-3 at St. Boniface and Preschool, 4-6 grades at Petersburg. The majority of the students for grades 7-12 receive their Catholic education at Beckman High School in Dyersville, Iowa of which these parishes are part of the corporation.
Visitors to the churches are welcome. Tours are arranged by calling the rectories ahead of time. Each church was designated as a Pilgrimage Church during the Jubilee Year. Masses on weekends at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday or 10:00 a.m. on Sunday. These Mass times rotate throughout the year at St. Boniface Church in New Vienna and at SS. Peter and Paul in Petersburg. Baptismal instructions are given to individual families and to groups of families depending on circumstances, RCIA instructions for those wishing to inquire about the faith are given continuously. Because of the number of Masses, all weddings must be arranged, forms completed, dispensations if needed granted at least one month in advance of the date of marriage.
